Abstract

Background: Approximately 70% of people with mental disorders experience self-care deficits which if not treated will cause various problems such as physical and psychological disorders. So it was important to do nursing care to improve the ability in self-care in people with mental disorders. Objective: To provide an overview of nursing care in patients with self-care deficits: personal hygiene. Methods: This science paper used nursing care with education through audio-visual media for 7 meetings with a time of 30 minutes to 3 clients. The data obtained interviews, data analysis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The interview stage asks the patient's identity, signs and symptoms and abilities in self-care. The instruments used are sign and symptom observation sheets, self-care ability evaluation sheets, and pretest and posttest questionnaire sheets. Results: The three clients experienced the same decrease in signs and symptoms, namely from a score of 8 to 0 so that they experienced a decrease of 100% and the highest increase in self-care abilities, namely clients 2 and 3, obtained the same difference score of 13. Recommendation: To improve self-care skills using education through audio-visual media in patients with self-care deficits: personal hygiene.
