Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an increase of blood sugar levels due to a lack of insulin or insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. The family of Mr R had learning need to know more about DM. Health education on DM diet was given to improve their knowledge. Objective: to describe nursing care of fulfilling learning need to the family of Mr. R in Semondo Village, Gombong. Discussion: the main nursing diagnosis was ineffective health management supported by assesment results on Thursday, June 9, 2016 11.00 a.m. The client said that he avoids all foods and drinks containing sugar and only consume rice and fresh water every day. Mr. R said that sometimes he does not obey DM diet recommended by nutritionists at the community health center. Intervention and implementation done were checking his blood sugar, providing health education on DM diet. Results: The evaluation showed that there was an increase of Mr. R’s family knowledge about DM diet. Conclusion: Health education on DM diet may improve family’s knowledge about DM diet.
