Abstract

Background: In 2019 the incidence of bronchopneumonia in children and toddlers in Central Java was 3,624 cases, which cases of death reached 80-90%. One of the nonpharmacological therapies to overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance in bronchopneumonia patients is steam therapy with hot water and eucalyptus oil. Objective: Explains about nursing care in bronchopneumonia patients with the main nursing problem of ineffective airway clearance by giving hot steam therapy and eucalyptus oil. Method: Descriptive with a case study approach. The case study subjects in this scientific work were 5 patients with bronchopneumonia. Results: The results of the analysis that has been carried out on this nursing care obtained the main nursing problem in the five patients namely ineffective airway clearance. Nonpharmacological therapy carried out is steam therapy with hot water and eucalyptus oil for 10-15 minutes for bronchopneumonia patients. The therapy of hot water steam and eucalyptus oil was given once a day for 3 days. The nursing evaluation obtained after 3 days on the five patients showed that the nursing problems of airway clearance were not effectively resolved in four patients and had not been resolved in one patient. From the observations in the four patients, it was found that there was a decrease in RR, the sound of soft wet crackles was reduced, shortness of breath was reduced, and sputum production decreased. While the results of observations in one patient showed that there was a decrease in RR but it was still abnormal namely 48x/minute, the patient was still short of breath, the sound of soft wet crackles was reduced, and sputum production decreased. Recommendation: The health agency is able to develop therapeutic measures of hot water vapor and eucalyptus oil to deal with the problem of ineffective airway clearance.
