Abstract
Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the problem of growth is not only undernutrition, but also stunting and overnutrition. The prevalence of malnutrition under five is 7.3%, overweight 5.9%, and stunting (short stature) 21.9% (WHO 2019). The way that can be done to reduce malnutrition and even infant death is by giving exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: To explain the analysis of family nursing care at the stage of development of the first child's family with nursing problem of increasing family coping readiness by providing exclusive breastfeeding education in Purwadadi village. Method: This case study uses a descriptive approach. The subjects were families at the stage of development of the first child in Purwadadi Village who had smooth breastfeeding but did not give exclusive breastfeeding, namely 5 families. The families of the first child were taken according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The case study instrument used pre and post questionnaires. Subjects were given counselling about exclusive breastfeeding. Results: The five families with the first child development stage, showed that they experienced the main complaint willing to improve the family coping. The priority of nursing diagnoses is the readiness to increase family coping. The application of nursing intervention of this case study, namely exclusive breastfeeding education. The implementation is exclusive breastfeeding education. The evaluation results of the five families experienced increase of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding and increase in the results of the questionnaire score. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding education can increase family knowledge and coping at the stage of family development for the first child. Recommendation: For further researchers, they can conduct case studies on the family of the first child with the other nursing problem such as readiness to become parents.
