Abstract

Background: ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is a total occlusion of a coronary artery that causes a wider area of infarction covering the entire thickness of the myocardium, which is characterized by the presence of ST segment elevation on the ECG. Nursing problems that often arise in patients with STEMI are acute pain, acute pain that occurs in patients with STEMI is retrosternal chest pain (behind the sternum), such as being squeezed, pressed, stabbed, hot or pressed by heavy objects. Pain can radiate to the arm (usually the left), shoulder, neck, jaw and even back and epigastrium. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be given is slow deep breathing. Slow deep breathing is one form of nursing care in which the nurse teaches the patient how to do deep breaths, slow breaths (hold inspiration maximally) and how to exhale slowly, in addition to reducing the intensity of pain, deep breathing techniques can improve pulmonary ventilation and increase blood oxygenation. In addition, it can reduce muscle tension, saturation and anxiety that can inhibit painful stimuli. General Objective: To analyze nursing care for STEMI patients with acute pain nursing problems by administering Slow Deep Breathing therapy in the ICCU room of Prof. Hospital. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Nursing Care Outcomes: The results of the application carried out to the five patients with STEMI all experienced acute pain nursing problems and several interventions were carried out independently and collaboratively. One of the independent interventions given is Slow deep breathing therapy, after being given Slow deep breathing therapy the five patients experienced a decrease in the pain scale from moderate pain to mild pain. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to examine the use of other non-pharmacological therapies to reduce acute pain in STEMI patients.
