Abstract

Background: Nausea and vomiting is one of the earliest, most common, and most stressful symptoms associated with pregnancy. Nearly 70-85% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting in the first trimester of pregnancy (5-12 weeks). Nausea and vomiting occur in 60-80% of primigravida and 40-60% of multigravida. Nausea and vomiting are often overlooked because they are considered a consequence of early pregnancy. Objective: To explain nursing care by giving lemon aromatherapy to pregnant women in the first trimester who experience emesis gravidarum with nursing problems of nausea. Methods: This final scientific work uses a descriptive case study approach. The instrument used is an observation sheet. This case study involved 5 respondents with the criteria of first trimester pregnant women experiencing nausea and vomiting. The given intervention refers to SIKI with the addition of lemon aromatherapy application. Results: The main nursing diagnosis of the five patients was nausea, with nursing intervention namely lemon aromatherapy. The lemon aromatherapy was given 3 times for 24 hours, done 3 times with the duration of 5 minutes for each of them. After 3 times for 24 hours of having the therapy, it showed that lemon aromatherapy was proven to be effective on reducing the level of nausea of the first trimester pregnant women. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to the first trimester pregnant women who experience nausea and vomiting.
