Abstract

Background: Laparotomy is a type of major surgical operation performed in the abdomen. Post-laparotomy patients will usually experience severe pain. There are two managements to deal with postoperative pain, namely pharmacological management and non-pharmacological management. One of the nonpharmacological therapies is giving lavender aromatherapy to reduce pain intensity in post-laparotomy patients with moderate pain. Objectives: Explaining the analysis of care in patients with post laparotomy with acute pain nursing problems. Methods: This research used a descriptive case study method. The subjects of this study were post laparotomy patients according to the criteria. Result: Nursing diagnoses are acute pain related to physiological injury agents. Intervention: SLKI Complaints of reduced pain, reduced anxiety reduced grimacing. SIKI Pain management by observing the location, characteristics, duration, frequency, quality, intensity of pain, giving drug therapy, giving lavender aromatherapy, monitoring vital signs, monitoring the success of aromatherapy. The implementation carried out by the five patients was lavender aromatherapy in post laparotomy patients, by following the procedure according to the applicable SOP, with a duration of 15-20 minutes each day for 1x a day for 2 consecutive days. For the evaluation, based on the five patients who received lavender aromatherapy, there was a significant reduction in pain. Conclusion: There was an effect of giving lavender aromatherapy on reducing pain in post laparotomy patients. Recommendation: The results of this nursing care can be used as a reference for the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures for reduce pain intensity in post-laparotomy patients
