Abstract
Background, Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disorder of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) which results in metabolic disorders. Patients with diabetes mellitus are generally treated with pharmacological therapy. Drug interaction is a body response that can affect a treatment. Drug interactions if given together or almost simultaneously with food or drink can change the effect of the drug. This drug interaction is seen from the use of DM drugs with other drug combinations accompanied by comorbidities. Objective, Knowing the Drug Interaction in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at the Outpatient Installation of PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Methods, This study used a cross sectional method and the data were taken retrospectively by tracing the medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Result, The results showed that the interactions that occurred were minor interactions (50.5%) between metformin and furosemide, moderate interactions (45.4%) between bisoprolol and amlodipine, and major interactions (4.1%) between ketoconazole and lansoprazole. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are most commonly accompanied by hypertension. Conclusion, The results showed that all drug interactions that occurred were included in drug interactions with minor, moderate, and major severity. So it is very necessary to monitor or monitor patients in taking drugs. Recommendations, For further researchers, further research on drug interactions should be carried out, not only knowing the severity but also the mechanism of action of the drug.
