Abstract
Background: One of the problems on facial skin is acne. Acne can be caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. Mango arum sweet leaf plant is a plant that is widely spread in Indonesia with flavonoid content that has potential as anti-acne. Masks Clay is the most popular mask preparation compared to other mask preparations. Objective: Mask preparation formula clay of methanol extract of mango arum sweet leaves which has good characteristics and is effective as anti-acne. Methods: Mask formulations clay using the active substance of methanol extract of mango arum sweet leaves with different formula concentrations F1 (10%), F2 (15%), and F3 (20%). Clay mask with mango arum sweet leaf extract was carried out for physical characteristics of the preparation and tested for its antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes by measuring the inhibition zone formed. The antibacterial method used is the well method. Results: The results showed that all preparations of the clay mask of methanol extract of mango arum sweet leaves had preparation characteristics, except for formula 3 which did not meet the preparation viscosity. Variations in the concentration of methanol extract of mango arum sweet leaves affect the characteristics of the preparation with the results of one way annova p<0.05. The results of the antibacterial test showed that the three formulas had antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes with inhibition zone diameters of 9.21 mm, 9.63 mm, and 11.06 mm, respectively. Conclusion: The results of the antibacterial test of the three formulations of clay, methanol extract of mango arum sweet leaves, had antibacterial activity in formulas 1 and 2 in the medium category and formula 3 in the strong category. Suggestion: It is necessary to test the stability of the preparation and test the antibacterial activity on acne with other bacteria on the clay of mango arum sweet leaf extract.
