Abstract

Background: To keep the skin clean is important to reduce infectious agents and to prevent the spreading of disease. Limited of hand washing facilities and efficiency reasons have led us to the emergence of antibacterial wet wipes. Cleaning hands with wet wipes can be done everywhere and everytime. The use of chemicals inside the wet wipes manufacturing should be minimized because they are not healty enough. Pandanus amaryllifolius contain flavonoids which have potential to be natural antibacterials. Purposes: To make a good preparation of wet wipes and to make it effective as antibacteria. Method: Wet wipes preparations were made in 5 formulas by varying the active substance of pandanus amaryllifolius ethanol extract, named F1(6.25%), F2(12.5%), F3(25%), F4(50%) and F5(100%). Tests were carried out on wet wipes preparations which included physical testing of the preparation (organoleptic test, preference test), antibacterial test, and skin irritation test. Result: The ethanol extract of pandanus amaryllifolius contains flavonoid compounds. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a significant difference between the formulas indicated by the p value <0.05. Physical evaluation of the preparation showed that formulas 1, 2, and 3 were the best formulas. Antibacterial test showed that the best formula was F3. The irritation test showed that the best formula was formula 1,2,3, and 4. Conclusion: The best formula for wet wipes preparation of pandanus amaryllifolius ethanol extract, based on the results of evaluation of physical stability, antibacterial test and irritation test is formula 3 with 25% concetration of pandanus amaryllifolius ethanol extract. Recommendation: It is suggested to calculate the number of bacterial colonies at different time intervals on the antibacterial activity test in order to find out the best formula that can reduce the number of bacterial colonies quickly.
