Abstract

Background, Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease in which blood glucose levels increase. Diabetes mellitus is the second highest non-communicable disease in Kebumen Regency. Type 2 diabetes mellitus requires long-term treatment so that patient medication adherence is very important. Non-adherence to treatment can lead to complications. Research Purposes, This study aims to determine the level of compliance and the relationship between patient characteristics and adherence to drug use in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Purbowangi Hospital. Research Methods. Observational research with cross sectional study design. Sampling by purposive sampling with the number of respondents 70 patients. Data were collected using the MMAS-8 questionnaire and statistically analyzed using the chi square test. Research Result, The results of the study obtained low adherence 20.0%, moderate adherence 45.7%, and high adherence 34.3%. There was no significant relationship between the level of compliance with the characteristics of the respondents including gender (p=0.782), age (p=0.452), education (p=0.452), occupation (p=0.491), income (p=0.167), length of suffering (p=0,104), and comorbidities (p=0,352). There is a significant relationship between the level of compliance with antidiabetic drugs received (p = 0.020). Conclusion, Adherence to drug use in outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Purbowangi Hospital was included in the moderate compliance category and there is a significant relationship between received antidiabetic drugs and adherence.
