Abstract
Background: Diarrhea is a potential endemic disease of Extraordinary Events which is often accompanied by death in Indonesia. One of the causes of death in children under 5 years (infants) is diarrhea, worldwide which is the second leading cause of infant mortality. Infection, germs, and protozoa are triggers for the formation of diarrhea). Honey is a complementary therapy that can reduce the frequency of diarrhea in children. Diarrhea patients often experience diaper rash because frequent defecation causes the skin in the perineal area to become moist, this diaper rash can be treated by using olive oil as a complementary therapy to reduce diaper rash. Objective: To explain nursing care about providing complementary therapy of honey and olive oil to children aged 1-5 years with diarrhea as the main nursing problem. Methods: This study uses a descriptive case study with a case study design of five patients, analyzes the administration of complementary therapy honey to reduce the frequency of diarrhea and the administration of olive oil to reduce diaper rash in patients aged 1-5 years with major nursing problems diarrhea and impaired skin integrity. Results: The results of the analysis of nursing innovative treatment (before and after) in patients managed with complementary therapy, giving honey to diarrhea patients, decreased the frequency of diarrhea 0-1 times/day, and the provision of complementary therapy olive oil in patients who experienced diaper rash. There is a decrease in the degree of diaper rash from very mild to mild on a scale (0.5-1.0). Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied in the inpatient room of the hospital as an independent nursing treatment for diarrhea patients and patients with diaper rash.
