Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular disorders, which causes the majority of strokes, coronary heart disease, kidney failure, and premature death, in one in every four people in the United States. In the United States and throughout the world, hypertension is becoming more widespread worldwide, with a 30% increase predicted by 2025. Symptoms of hypertension include headaches, dizziness and nosebleeds. These symptoms if left untreated can cause ongoing pain, thus requiring nursing intervention to reduce pain. Progressive Muscle Relaxation, is a way that can be done to reduce pain, which is felt by people with hypertension. Objective: To analyze nursing care given to moderately hypertensive individuals, with pain nursing problems. Methods: This scientific work uses a case study method on 5 patients with hypertension. The instruments used are the nursing care format, pain assessment using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and Standard Operation Procedures on Progressive Muscle Relaxation. Nursing Care Results: Nursing problems that emerged in the 5 patients with hypertension were acute pain, another nursing diagnosis that emerged was anxiety, based on the implementation that had been carried out on 5 patients by performing pain management including pain assessment using the PQRST method, and provide non-pharmacological measures of Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy, to reduce the pain felt by patients with hypertension. Recommendation: From the results of this nursing care, it is hoped that for further research, therapy is expected to be carried out in the morning and more than three days.
