Abstract
Background : Burns are one of the open wounds that must be treated quickly, open wounds that are not treated quickly will have the potential to become infected. Traditional plants bay leaves (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.) and arumanis mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) are effective in healing burns with compounds in them such as flavonoids as anti-inflammatory which can reduce inflammation and reduce pain in case of bleeding and swelling, flavonoid compounds also has a role as an antibacterial that can prevent infection in wounds. Objectives : The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a combination of extracts of arumanis mango (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.) extracts on the healing of burns in male white rats of wistar strain. Methodology : This research is an experimental laboratory consisting of 6 treatment groups, namely a positive control group (neocenta gel), a negative control group (without treatment), a combination group of arumanis mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.). or treatment group 1 (1A:1A), treatment group 2 (2A:1B), treatment group 3 (1A:2B), treatment group 4 (2A:2B). Observation parameters were measurement of burn diameter after rats were treated with a combination of mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.). observed for 14 days. The results of observations on day 14 were carried out statistical tests using SPSS. Result : The results showed that the combination of arumanis mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.) had an effect on burn healing which was characterized by a decrease in burn diameter. The best combination for decreasing the diameter of burns, respectively, was in group 1 (1:1), group 3 (1A:2B), group 2 (2A:1B), group 4 (2A:2B), positive control and negative control group. Conclusion : The combination of arumanis mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.) has an effect on decreasing the diameter of burns, the best combination is in group 1 (1A:1A) with a decrease in burn diameter of 5.58 mm and the percentage of burn healing reached 78%. Recommendations: Further research is needed to develop a combination of arumanis mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) and bay leaf (Syzygium polianthum (Wight) Walp.) in the form of an anti-burn formulation.
