Abstract
Background: Infectious diseases are still a major problem in developing countries because of the dusty air and humid temperatures. Infectious diseases can be caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi. One of the bacteria that causes infectious diseases is Staphylococcus aureus. White turmeric rhizome and arumanis mango leaves are plants that have the potential as antibacterial Staphylococcus aureus that causes infection. Research Objectives: This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the combination of ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mango. Val) and arumanis mango leaf (Mangifera indica. L. var. arumanis) in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and observe the inhibition zone formed. Research Methods: This study used the tube test and TLC for the identification of compounds and the well method for the antibacterial test. The combination concentration series of ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mango. Val) and arumanis mango leaf (Mangifera indica. L. var. arumanis) were 6.25% and 12.5%, vancomycin positive control 1000μg and DMSO negative control. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16 with One Way Anova test. Results: The results of the antibacterial test combination of ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mango. Val) and arumanis mango leaves (Mangifera indica. L. var. arumanis) at a concentration of 6.25% which had the strongest inhibitory power, namely a ratio of 1:2 of 14.7mm, the concentration of 12.5% which has the strongest inhibitory power is 1:2 ratio of 14.7mm so that it can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Statistical test results showed p=0.00<0.05 which stated that each treatment group could inhibit bacterial growth. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the combination of ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mango. Val) and arumanis mango leaf (Mangifera indica. L. var. arumanis) has the potential as an antibacterial on Staphylococcus aureus. The combination of extracts with a ratio of 1:2 both at concentrations of 6.25% and 12.5% had the strongest inhibitory power of 14.7mm. Recommendation: It is necessary to do further research by increasing the number of replications and developing it into a dosage form as an antibacterial.
