Abstract
Background : Urinary tract infection is a disease of the upper and lower urinary tract, the cause of which is gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Irrational antibiotic treatment causes negative effect such as side effect or toxicity and resistance occurs. This causes treatment with antibiotic to be ineffective. Use of natural medicine can minimize side effect. Ganitri plant is one of the plant that has the potential as antibacterial and its utilization has not been maximized. Purpose : Knowing the antibacterial activity and the most effective concentration of the ethanol-aquadest combination extract of ganitri leaves against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Method : This research method use well diffusion method for antibacterial test. The results of the diameter inhibition zone were statistically analyzed using One Way Anova and Pos-Hoc Test. Results: The higher concentration of the ethanol-aquadest combination extracts of ganitri leaves, the greater the activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results of antibacterial statistical test against Escherichia coli, the concentration 125 ug/ml significantly different from the concentration of 250, 500, and 1000 ug/ml, as well as positive control, the concentration of 250 ug/ml was not significantly different from the concentration of 500 ug/ml which was indicated by the p value=0,079. The concentration 500 ug/ml was not significantly different from the concentration 1000 ug/ml which was indicated by has a significant difference concentration indicated by the p value<0,05. Conclusion : Ethanol-aqudest combination extract of ganitri (Elaocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) leaves has effectiveness as antibacterial against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The most effective concentration of ethanolaquadest combination of ganitri leaves in inhibiting Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is the concentration 1000 ug/ml. Recommendation: Suggest to doing research with other method to determine the minimum kill rate.
