Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition in which a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal which results in an increase in morbidity (morbidity) and mortality (mortality). The high rate of hypertension is caused because hypertension is a disease with various causes, this is related to the lifestyle of urban people such as lack of physical activity, eating patterns of excessive salt consumption, lack of rest/sleep and smoking habits. Objective: to determine the relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Alian Health Center Methods: The research method is correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The author takes data from 94 respondents, which is taken by simple random sampling. The instrument or measuring instrument used in this study is a questionnaire. The data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively. Results: There is a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Alian Health Center (p = 0.002). There is a relationship between diet and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Alian Health Center (p = 0.000). There is a relationship between resting habits and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Alian Health Center (p = 0.013). There is no relationship between smoking habits and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Alian Health Center (p = 0.926) Recommendation: Future researchers should be able to conduct research with a stronger epidemiological study design, namely case control or cohort so that the risk of each variable can be measured more clearly.
