Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a non-communicable disease that often occurs in women which is characterized by a lump in the breast. The impact of breast cancer sufferers can experience changes in physical and psychological which can reduce the quality of life. Family suport is given to reduce anxiety, provide encouragement, and help to improve the quality of life of breast cancer sufferers. Purpose: To determine the correlation between family support and quality of life of breast cancer patients at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto Hospital. Methods: The method of this research was descriptive quantitative correlation with cross sectional approach, sampling used purposive sampling. The number of samples was 99 respondents. Data analysis used correlation. Instrument used a family support and EORTC-QLQ-BR23 Results: The average score of family support given to patients is 49.54 out of a maximum score of 60 which means having good family support, then the average score of quality of life based on the functional scale was 52.38 from a maximum score 100 and the symptom scale was 51.09 from a maximum score 100. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between family support and the quality of life at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto Hospital. The correlation between familly support and quality of life based on functional scale with p-value 0.001 and between familly support and quality of life based on symptoms with p-value 0.001 Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to examine the factors that can affect the quality of life in breast cancer patients.
