Abstract

Background: Caries is a disease of the teeth that causes the appearance of hard tissue on the teeth. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), dental caries globally, dental caries is still a major public health problem that can be prevented. Based on oral health reports of school children, as many as 60-90% have dental caries. Objectives: To determine the relationship between brushing habits and the incidence of dental caries in elementary school children at SDN 3 Batursari, Sirampog District, Brebes Regency. Methods: This study uses a correlational quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling using random sampling technique and obtained a sample of 84 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire on the accuracy of brushing teeth and an observation sheet for examining dental caries. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis using chi square test. Results: The results of this study were 22 respondents with cavities (26.2%), 21 respondents (25.0%) black plaque and 41 respondents (48.8%). 18 respondents (21.4%) were not good at brushing their teeth and 66 respondents (78.6%) were good at brushing their teeth. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the habit of brushing teeth with the incidence of dental caries, with p-value (0.004) (<0.05). Recommendation: For further researchers, it is hoped that they can examine the factors that are thought to influence the incidence of dental caries
