Abstract

Background: DM is an infectious disease, based on data from the Puring Public Health Center, the number of DM patients who actively participated in Prolanis was 48 DM patients. This disease can cause diabetic ulcers, this can be prevented by doing footcare. One of the factors that can affect the practice of footcare is family support, good support can have a positive influence on sufferers such as increasing enthusiasm in doing footcare. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the implementation of footcare for people with diabetes mellitus in the Puring Public Health Center. Methods: This research used correlational quantitative method with cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 48 respondents. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire on family support and footcare. Statistical test analysis of this study using Spearman rank. Results: Family support mostly has a good category as many as 30 respondents (62.5%), and footcare mostly has a sufficient category as many as 27 respondents (56.3%). The results of statistical test analysis obtained a p-value of 0.025 (< 0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between family support and the implementation of footcare for diabetes mellitus patients in the Puring Public Health Center. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to examine how the family’s knowledge of the implementation of footcare for diabetes mellitus patients.
