Abstract
Background: Self-esteem is a very important aspect in the life of adolescents, if the adolescent experiences low self -esteem then there are some problems in his life. Selfesteem can be improved in various ways, one of which is with self talk therapy. Objective: Knowing the effect of self talk on the increasing self-esteem in adolescents of muhammadiyah orphan and dhuafa in gombong district. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method with a design of one group pretestposttest design. The sample in this study was 32 respondents consisting of young men and women. The research process was carried out four times over two weeks and using the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES). The analysis used is a statistical paired sample ttest. Results: From 32 respondents before therapy, the majority experienced low self-esteem as many as 16 respondents (53.3%) and normal self -esteem as many as 14 respondents (46.7%), but after therapy the majority experienced normal self -esteem as many as 25 respondents (83.3%) and low self -esteem as many as 5 respondents (16.7%). Statistical tests showed the effect of self-talk on self-esteem before and after therapy with a significant value of p value = 0.000 (sig<0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant influence between self -esteem before and after being given therapy. Recommendation: The Yatim and Dhuafa Muhammadiyah Gombong Orphanage is expected to make self-talk therapy a routine activity in improving mental health.
