Abstract

Background: Diabetes melitus (DM) is a disease of metabolic disorders characterized by increased blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia). To overcome high blood sugar levels due to stress can be done by means of music therapy. Objective: To determine the effect of flute music therapy on reducing blood sugar levels of patients with type II Diabetes Melitus. Methods: The present study is Quasy Experimental with pretest-posttest control group design approach. Data analysis is Paired t test and Independent t test. Total population were 24 respondents and the samples were the 24 respondents taken by total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out for one month. Glucometer was used as the instrument to measure blood sugar level, while music therapy was given using a cellphone connected to an airphone via bluetooth. Results: The results of the dependent t test showed that the p value was 0,008 (p<0,05). There was a decrease in the mean of the intervention group after flute music therapy by 36,08. Conclusion: There is an effect of flute music therapy on reducing blood sugar level of type II DM patients in Adimulyo Public Health Center. Recommendation: Further researchers can take more subjects, use other types of music therapy, and control factors that affect blood sugar level.
