Abstract
Background: This research is motivated by the high rate of violence that occurs in Indonesia, supported by data obtained internationally and nationally, as well as by the high rate of mental disorders that occur in Indonesia. From preliminary studies, Most children experience verbal abuse. The objective of the study: is to find out the relationship between verbal violence of parents Research method: the study was conducted at SDN Blengorkulon. Using quantitative research methods. The type and design of this study use a crossectional approach. The sample was 131 with total sampling using a verbal violence questionnaire with a validity test value of 0.01 and a reliability test value of 0.947 while children's mental health used the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire questionnaire with a validity test value of CV1>0.8, a reliability test value of 0.887. Data analysis using the SPSS program spearman rank formula. The results of the study: verbal violence of parents against children's mental health obtained results that there was a significant value of p<0.00 which means it is correlated, the value of the correlation coefficient of 0.713 means that it has a strong relationship. The majority of children experienced low verbal abuse as many as 72 with a percentage of 55.0% experiencing normal mental health. Children who experienced severe verbal distress as many as 33 with a percentage of 25.2% the majority experienced abnormal mental health as many as 18 children with a percentage of 13.7%. Recommendation: The high rate of verbal violence that occurs in the environment, researchers suggest that parenting socialization should be carried out for parents.
