Abstract
Background: The ability of mothers to take care of their babies every day is a task that must be mastered and able to be carried out by every parent, especially mothers. To develop independent personal abilities, self-efficacy is needed. Objective: to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and the ability of mothers to care for newborns in dr. Sudirman, Kebumen. Methods: The research method is correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were post partum mothers in 2020 totaling 3584. The sample used was 97 mothers who were taken by purposive sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data were analyzed univariately (descriptively) and correlatively using the Kendal Tau Correlation test. Results: Mothers of newborns in the normal age category (20-35 years) (81.4%), normal weight baby category (76.3%), type of delivery in the category of delivery with action (63.9%), and maternal education in the middle category (SMA/Vocational High School). / MA) (47.4%). Mother's self-efficacy in caring for newborns is in the high category (91.8%). The ability of mothers to care for newborns is in the sufficient category (79.4%). There is a relationship between self-efficacy and the ability of mothers to care for newborns. The higher the selfefficacy, the better the mother's ability to care for newborns
