Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, the stigmatization of people with mental disorders is still overthought. People still think people with mental disorders are dangerous because they can harm other people. The wrong perceptions of the community regarding mental disorders can also lead to stigmatization of the environment. It will affect the acceptance of families and communities of people with mental disorders. Objective: To determine public perception of people with mental disorders in Desa Siaga Depokrejo, the work area of Puskesmas Kebumen II. Method: The research method was descriptive with a survey approach. The author took the research data from 374 people, these were taken by a simple random sampling technique. It was carried out for 2 months from June - July 2022 using the CAMI (Community Attitudes toward Mental Illness) questionnaire which has been translated to Indonesian. The questionnaire had been tested for validity procedural in the previous research by Pangestika (2019), which showed that the questionnaire was valid and reliable. Results: Most of the respondents were 36-45 years old (21.9%), and they had an education background of high school levels (47.9%). There 335 respondents (89,6%) had a positive category regarding the perception of people with mental disorders. Conclusion: The public perception of people with mental disorders in Desa Siaga Depokrejo, the work area of Puskesmas Kebumen II had been in a positive category (89,6%). Recommendation: Further management of the mental-health programs should promote health promotion as mental health education activities people can have a positive perception of people with mental disorders.
