Abstract

Background: Menstrual pattern is a series of menstrual processes which include the menstrual cycle, duration of menstrual bleeding, the amount of bleeding, and the presence or absence of dysmenorrhea, as well as other menstrual complaints. Menstrual patterns in adolescent girls are different. The impact for women if they experience irregular menstrual patterns that are not handled properly can cause fertility problems. Objectives: To determine the description of menstrual patterns of grade I female students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Methods: This research was an analytical survey research with cross sectional design. The research samples were grade I students taken by cluster random sampling technique of 159 students. The samples criteria were grade I students at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong for the 2021/2022 academic year, and willing to be respondents. The study was conducted in June 2022. Menstrual patterns were measured using a questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate analysis. Results: The average age of the respondents was 19 years old, the age of menarche was 12 years old, and most of the BMI was normal (45.3%). Menstrual patterns based on menstrual cycles were mostly 21-35 days (93.7%), require 3-4 sanitary napkins every day (71.1%), menstrual duration was 3-7 days (80.5%) and all students experience complaints during menstruation. Conclusion: Menstruation patterns of grade I female students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong are mostly in the normal category. Recommendation: Further researchers are advised to conduct research with the same theme by looking for the dominant factors that affect the menstrual cycle.
