Abstract

Background: The progress of the times and the increasingly sophisticated technology of all aspects seems to require humans to make gadgets as the main means of carrying out daily activities. The use of gadgets that take too long can cause behavioral disorders such as emotional disorders, difficulty of sleeping, obesity, difficulty of concentrating, lowering the Grade Point Average (GPA) and can result in the onset of violence. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct further research to determine eye health disorders (asthenopia) due to the use of gadgets, especially among students. Objective: to analyze the correlation of the use of gadgets with incidence of asthenopia among students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Methods: This research is correlational quantitative with cross sectional approach. The population is all students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. The sampling technique used stratified random sampling with samples of 100 students. Bivariate analysis was done to analyze the correlation between variables using Spearman rank test. Results: Most students experienced eye fatigue of 96% and had a moderate duration of gadget use of 81% with the results of the spearman rank correlation test of 0.641 with signification of <0.001 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is significant correlation of the use of gadgets with incidence of asthenopia among students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Recommendation: Future research can examine other variables that can cause eye fatigue.
