Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease associated with increased blood sugar levels. The number of people with diabetes mellitus has increased recently. In 2019, there are 463 million, and is estimated to reach 700 million in 2045. Changes in the condition of people with diabetes often cause psychological stress such as stress problems. Management of diabetes mellitus can be done both pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically, one of the non-pharmacological therapies is the medication dhikr. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the medication dhikr therapy on the stress level of patients with type II diabetes mellitus in the target area of the Jatilawang Public Health Center. Methods: This study was a Quasi-Experimental design with a one-group pretestposttest design. Each group contained 20 respondents and they were selected by simple random sampling. The research instrument used the DASS questionnaire. Shapiro Wilk test was conducted to detect all departures from normality, and then the data was analysed the dependent t-test is used. Results: The stress level of respondents before giving dhikr therapy, all respondents experienced moderate stress with a score of 19-25 and after getting dhikr therapy most of them said that their stress level was mild stress (score of 15- 18). It was concluded that there was the effectiveness of dhikr therapy on the stress level of type II diabetes mellitus patients with a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05). Conclusion: Dhikr therapy was effective in reducing the stress level of type II diabetes mellitus in the target area of the Jatilawang Public Health Center. Recommendation: Further research can explore what kinds of stress management for people with diabetes mellitus.
