Abstract
Background: Hospital services currently demand continuous changes in accordance with applicable standards or policies in order to improve service quality. Hospitals face various challenges and pressures, including the increasing complexity of patient care, demands for quality, quantity, patient safety, meeting the needs of patients, families and communities and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. To overcome these problems, a patient service manager (MPP) is needed or also known as a Case Manager. The purpose of the study: to find out the experience of case managers in carrying out their roles and functions at the Kutoarjo Blue Cross Hospital. Research method: This study uses a qualitative type with a qualitative descriptive study approach. Research results: From the results of interviews with nine participants, eight themes and twenty one sub-themes were found, namely the theme of the role and function of the case manager, the theme of the role of conducting assessments with two sub-themes, the theme of making plans with two sub-themes, the theme of facilitating the process of communication, coordination and collaboration with four sub themes, the theme of education and advocacy with three sub themes, the theme of monitoring with four sub themes, the theme of helping the transition process with three sub themes and the theme of improving quality and cost control with three sub themes. Conclusion: All participants understand the role and function of the case manager, carry out the seven roles of the case manager but are not optimal and the obstacles faced by the case manager are the amount of energy and time and the dual role as an active PPA. Recommendations for further researchers: The results of this study are expected to be the basis for further research and development of research on management in hospitals.
