Abstract
Background : The process of achieving growth and development of children can be in a sick condition because the body's defense system is still weak. During treatment at the hospital, the child will receive invasive procedures. Pain management standards consist of pharmacological and non-pharmacological. One of the non-pharmacological pain management is the bear hug position. Objective: To determine the effect of the bear hug position on pain during infusion in pediatric patients at RSUD dr. Sudirman Kebumen Methods: The research method is a quasi experimental post test non equipvalent with control group. The population used in this study were all pre-school children undergoing treatment in 2020 with a total of 677 children with an average of 56 pediatric patients in one month. This study involved 56 samples which were divided into 2 groups, namely 28 children in the treatment group and 28 children in the control group. Samples were taken by purposive sampling. The research instrument was a hug observation sheet and the Wong Baker Faces Pain Scale. Data were analyzed univariately (descriptively) and comparatively using the Mann Whitney U Test. Results: Control group children with pain in the category of disrupting activities (35.7%). Children in the treatment group with moderate pain category (67.9%). There was an effect of holding the bear hug position on pain during infusion in pediatric patients (p=0.001).
