Abstract
Background: One of the complications of DM is the emergence of problems in the legs which can be diagnosed by measuring the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). In addition to various kinds of tests that must be carried out in DM patients, patients must also pay attention to the management of diabetes mellitus, one of which is exercise. One of the sports that can be applied to people with DM is Buerger Allen. The activity of Buerger Allen can increase the vascularity of blood vessels and consequently will increase the blood supply in the tissues Objective: to determine the effect of buerger allen exercise on the ankle brachial index (abi) in patients with diabetes mellitus at RSUD DR. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo Methods: The research method is a quasi-experimental pretest posttest control group design. The writer takes data from 32 respondents, which is taken by purposive sampling. Instruments or measuring tools used in this study are SOP buerger allen exercise and SOP Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). Data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively. Results : Patients with diabetes mellitus in RSUD dr. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo is 58 – 65 years old (62.50%) and female (53.13%). In the intervention group the average Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) before the implementation of the Buerger Allen exercise was 0.8769 (Borderline Perfusion), while after the intervention was 0.9544 (Normal Limit) so that there was an increase of 0.07750 the average Ankle Brachial Index. In the control group the average Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) before the implementation of the Buerger Allen exercise was 0.8906 (Borderline Perfusion), while after the intervention was 0.8819 (Borderline Perfusion). The change in the ankle brachial index (abi) in the intervention group was 0.0775 while the average change in the ankle brachial index (abi) in the control group was -0.0087 with p value: 0.001. Therefore, the p value (0.001 < 0.05) means that there is an effect of Buerger Allen Exercise on the Increase of Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) in Diabetes Mellitus Patients at RSUD DR. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo Recommendation: Patients are expected to apply the buerger allen exercise that has been taught by health workers and carry out the buerger allen exercise to improve leg blood circulation in patients with diabetes mellitus.
