Abstract

Background. Hypertension, as a silent killer disease, increase the complication risk with fatal impact to the sufferers. The number of people with hypertension has been increasing and ranked as the third leading cause of death Indonesia. Diet management behavior in hypertension patients are urgently needed to control the number of sufferers and there are a lot of factors related to the behavior. Objective. This research aim to recognize the factors related to diet management behavior in hypertension patients at the Main Inpatients Clinic (Klinik Utama Rawat Inap) PKU Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo. Methode As the method, this paper use descriptive analytics with cross sectional approach. Result. This research through the chi square test found that there is a relationship between education level (p=0.020), knowledge (p=0.000), patients’ motivation (p=0.000), and family support (p=0.000), with diet management behavior in hypertension patients at the Main Inpatients Clinic PKU Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo. Conclusion. There is a relationship between education level, knowledge, patients’ motivation, and family support with diet management behavior in hypertension patients at the Main Inpatients Clinic PKU Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo. Recommendation. For further research, study on diet management behavior in hypertension patients can elaborate more specific factors related to or affecting it, such as smoking habit, salt consumption, coffee intake, and the availability of transportation, with more accurate research measuring instruments.
