Abstract
Background: Thalassemia is one of the most common genetic diseases in the world. Thalassemia children face many problems so they are vulnerable to low quality of life as a result of the disease they suffer and cause social and emotional disorders. Objective: to find out the psychosocial description and quality of life of thalassemia children in Melati Room, Dr. Soedirman State Hospital of Kebumen. Methods: The present study is descriptive quantitative research with a survey approach. The population were 120 children with thalassemia. The samples were 35 children taken by purposive sampling technique. The instruments were Pediatric Symptom Checklist 17 (PSC-17) and PedsQL Generic Core Scale questionnaire version 4.0. Data were analyzed univariately (descriptively) Results: The majority of thalassemic children were 13-18 years old (68.6%), female (54.3%), had thalassemia >5 years (85.7%), and Hb before transfusion <9 g/dl (88.6%). Most of the thalassemia children in the category of not having psychosocial problems (82.9%). The quality of life of thalassemia children is in good category (88.6%).
