Abstract

Background: Invasive procedures such as infusion can cause pain. Installation of infusion when the patient is about to undergo surgery with the aim of administering anesthetic drugs, providing nutrition, and fluids. Installation of the patient's infusion can cause pain because of the needle that goes into the blood vessel. Pain that is not treated on time can interfere with the patient's activities, sleep difficulties, and increase anxiety. Therefore, it is necessary to give cutaneous stimulation therapy to reduce pain with the cold compress method. Objective : To analyze the effect of cold compress cutaneous stimulation to reduce pain due to infusion. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a posttest only design with control. A sample of 30 preoperative patients was divided into 2, namely 15 preoperative patients in the intervention group and 15 in the control group, which were taken by random sampling. Results: Pain scale in the intervention group after being given cutaneous stimulation. The majority of cold compresses were on a scale of 1 (mild pain) as many as 9 people (60%), Post-test pain scale in the control group who were not given cold compress cutaneous stimulation (according to the hospital's therapeutic regimen) the majority is a scale of 3 as many as 8 people (53.3%). While the value of the difference in pain scale in the control and intervention groups was -2.07. After the Man Whitney U test was carried out, it was found that p value = 0.000 (p value <0.05), this indicates that there is an effect of cold compress cutaneous stimulation on pain during infusion. Conclusion: There is an effect of cold compress cutaneous stimulation on pain during infusion. Recommendation: Prembun Hospital is expected to make the cold compress cutaneous stimulation technique a standard operating procedure.
