Abstract

Background: ARI is a major cause of infectious disease morbidity and mortality in the world. The emergence or absence of disease in humans is influenced by three main factors, namely the host, the germ, and the environment. The condition of the house building and its environment that does not meet the requirements is a risk factor for the transmission of various types of environmental-based diseases such as ARI. Purposes: This study aims to determine the effect of the physical environment of the house on ARI under five at UPT Puskesmas Adipala 2. Methods: This research method is cause and effect research with a cross sectional approach. The study population was all heads of families who had toddlers in the Work area of UPT Adipala Health Center 2. The number of samples determined by the Slovin formula was 86 taken by accidental sampling technique. Data analysis using Chi Square statistical test. Result: The results showed that there was a statistically significant effect between the type of floor of the house on the incidence of ARI in children under five. There is a statistically significant effect between house ventilation on the incidence of ARI in children under five. There is a statistically significant effect between residential density and the incidence of ARI in children under five. There is a statistically significant effect between house humidity on the incidence of ARI in children under five. There is a statistically significant effect between house lighting on the incidence of ARI in children under five. Conclusion: The physical environment of the house has an effect on the incidence of ARI in children under five in the Work area of the UPT Puskesmas Adipala 2
