Abstract

Background, the number of adolescents in Indonesia for the age of 10-14 years reaches 22.195,9 people and the age 15-19 years reaches 22.312,6 people (Central Statistics Agency, 2020). Problems that often occur in adolescents are going away from home, stealing and truancy. One of the causes of adolescens probles is in social and emotional development. Adolescents need parental parenting for their social and emotional development. Parenting patterns are divided into 3, namely democratic, permissive and authoritarian parenting. The results of the preliminary study, some adolescents with authoritarian parenting will cause teens who are not open, adolescents with permissive parenting will cause teens who are spoiled and want everything to be granted and some adolescents with democratic parenting will cause teens who are open with others. Parenting patterns affect the social and emotional development of adolescents. Objective, this study aims to determine the effect of parenting on the social and emotional development of adolescents at Wadasmalang Village. Methods, the method of this research is correlation analytic. The number of samples in this study were 87 respondents. The study used a parenting style questionnaire, social development questionnaire and emotional development questionnaire. This study uses the Chi-Square test. Research Result, Chi-Square test results of parenting on social development obtained p value = 0.015 and Chi-Square test results of parenting on emotional development obtained p value = 0.046. Conclusion, there is an effect of parenting on the social and emotional development of adolescents at Wadasmalang Village. Recommendation, other researchers can conduct research on the factors that influence the social development of adolescents.
