Abstract
Background : Febrile seizures are seizures that occur in children and infants, caused by sudden changes in brain function. Seizures are usually brief and transient, caused by excessive cerebral electrical discharge. Febrile seizures occur at body temperature >38°C this is due to an extracranial process. In general, febrile seizures can be minimized with proper treatment. One of the non-pharmacological treatments also needs to be done to help reduce the child’s body temperature on a regular basis. Some non-pharmacological techniques that can be given are warm water compresses and tepid water sponges. Compress is one of the actions to reduce heat production and increase heat dissipation.while the tepid water sponge is a warm compress technique by combining the block technique on superficial large blood vessels and the entire body wiping technique. General Objective : To explain the analysis of nursing care giving warm compresses and tepid water sponges to children with febrile seizures with hyperthermia nursing problems in the ER PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: In the preparation of this scientific paper, the author used a descriptive case study method, which is a method that describes the situation, especially the current situation. Nursing Care Results : The results of a study of five patients with a medical diagnosis of febrile seizures who experienced the main nursing problem of hyperthermia after receiving warm compresses and tepid water sponge therapy showed that warm compresses and tepid water sponge therapy were effective in reducing fever with overall evidence that patients experience a decrease in body temperature from initial body temperature >37,5°C to <37,5°C. Recommendation : Future researchers are expected to be able to examine the use of other non-pharmacological therapies to overcome the problem of hyperthermia in patients with febrile seizures.
