Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a predictor of increased morbidity and mortality in Covid-19 patients which is significantly higher than non-diabetic patients. Hyperglycemia can slow down the body's immunity so that germs and viruses are easy to attack, including SARS-CoV-2. Covid-19 in Kebumen on October 1, 2021 reached 18,074 confirmed cases with 20 cases still being treated in hospitals, 25 cases ofself-isolation, 1,178 deaths, 16,839 cases recovered (Kebumen Responding to COVID-19, 2021). Objective: to determine the relationship between comorbid Diabetes Mellitus and the incidence of Covid-19 at the Palang Biru Gombong Hospital. Method: This type of research is descriptive with a retrospective approach. Samples were taken by using purposive sampling technique as many as 165 people. Data analysis used univariate analysis with frequency distribution presentation and bivariate analysis with Spearman Rank test. The instrument uses observation sheets seen from medical records in medical records to find out the history of comorbid Diabetes Mellitus and identify clinical symptoms of Covid 19. Results: There is a relationship between comorbid Diabetes mellitus and the incidence of Covid-19 with a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) Conclusion: There is a relationship between comorbid Diabetes mellitus and the incidence of Covid-19 at the Palang Biru Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: Nurses are expected to prioritize prevention efforts against the severity or critical condition of the patient
