Abstract

Background: Menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea is clinically characterized by varying degrees of pelvic pain during the menstrual cycle and often radiates to the midsection or waist, legs, lower abdominal area but rarely to the perineal and vesical areas. Self-medication or self-medication is the selection and use of drugs, both modern, herbal, and traditional medicines by individuals to treat disease or symptoms of disease Objectives: To determine the level of knowledge about dysmenorrhea, to determine the behavior of self-medication in overcoming dysmenorrhea, to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge about dysmenorrhea and self-medication behavior in overcoming dysmenorrhea in adolescents at Sekarteja and Tegalsari Villages, Adimulyo District, Kebumen Regency. Methods: This research is a descriptive research using cross sectional method and data collection with purpose sampling technique. Research on a group of subjects in purpose sampling is based on inclusion criteria, namely samples that can be included or are eligible for research. The research instrument used is a questionnaire sheet as a data collection tool. Result: The level of knowledge of adolescent girls on self-medication of menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) (84.2%). The behavior of adolescent girls related to self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) (77.2%) was in good category. The results of the calculation of the chi square correlation test can be seen that the significance value is 0.000 <0.05. This means that knowledge of self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) has a significant relationship with the behavior of self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). Conclusion: with self-medication behavior for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the knowledge level of self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) and the behavior of self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). Recommendation:For the community, it is necessary to increase awareness of the importance of self-medication for menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) in adolescent woman.
