Abstract

Background, The content of essential oil of lemongrass leaves comes from the monoterpene group, especially geraniol, syntronellal and sintronelol, can inhibit antibacterial activity. Wet wipes are a piece of material, which is generally added liquid or semi-liquid to clean and give it a soft taste. Therefore, the essential oil of lemongrass leaves can be used as the basic ingredient for making antibacterial wet wipes. Research Objectives. This study aims to make a good and effective wet wipe preparation as an antibacterial with various concentrations. Research Methods, This type of research is experimental. The essential oil of lemongrass leaves is obtained from PT Brataco, with a variety of concentrations of 5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30%, chloramphenicol as positive control, tween 80 as negative control. The essential oil of lemongrass leaves was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by the welling method. Furthermore, making wet wipes preparations and evaluating preparations is carried out including organoleptic examination, favorability test, irritation test and antiseptic power test. The data obtained were tested using statistics. The results of the study showed that the essential oil of lemongrass leaves has a strong antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 30% with an inhibitory power result of 11 mm. Meanwhile, the test results of Escherichia coli bacteria are at a concentration of 30% with an inhibitory power result of 8.4 mm. The antibacterial activity of the essential oil of lemongrass leaves against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli shows that each of the concentrations has significant differences against the positive group and the negative group with a pvalue of 0.05. The results of the antiseptic power test of wet wipes showed that each concentration had a significant difference against the positive group with a p value of 0.05. The results of the evaluation of the preparation organoleptically with the proportion of the formula that was most liked by respondents were formula 3, namely white, aromatic and moist lemongrass odor, not irritating and formula 6 had a low number of colonies, namely 7.3. In conclusion, Lemongrass leaf essential oil can be formulated as a wet wipe preparation that has been evaluated the preparation and the most preferred formula is formula 3. The essential oil of lemongrass leaves have antibacterial effectiveness with a concentration variant based on the low number of hand colonies in formula 6 is 73. Recommendation, It is necessary to carry out testing of antibacterial activity using other methods and different bacteria,
