Abstract
Background: The increasing number of elderly people every year can affect physical and psychological health, making them vulnerable to various problems. One of the problems that are often experienced in physiological terms due to the aging process is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a disease that attacks the joints so that joint pain and stiffness appear and experience swelling, in overcoming these problems the researchers applied nursing care by providing cold water compresses and knee exercises. Objective: To explain the analysis of gerontic osteoarthritis nursing care with the management of knee exercises and cold water therapy at the Puring Public Health Center. Research Methods: This case study uses a descriptive method involving 5 elderly people who experience chronic pain in osteoarthritis. The data obtained using the PQRST observation sheet which is then analyzed to confirm the diagnosis. Actions given in the form of cold compresses and knee exercises. Results: After the cold water compress and knee exercises were carried out, the results showed that there was a decrease in chronic pain and joint stiffness experienced by the elderly, where from the five respondents experienced a decrease in pain scale which was initially in the moderate category to mild. Conclusion: The results of this case study show that there are differences in pain scales with evidence of a decrease in values and signs of chronic pain symptoms before and after cold water compress therapy and knee exercises. Recommendation: It is recommended that the application in overcoming joint pain and stiffness be carried out consistently so as not to experience a decrease in the quality of life and activity in the elderly.
