Abstract

Background: Low birth weight, namely babies with birth weight less than 2500 grams. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 20 million babies worldwide are born with LBW and 95.6% of LBW babies are born in developing countries, for example in Indonesia. Impacts that may occur on LBW are metabolic disorders, immunity disorders, respiratory disorders, fluid and electrolyte disorders. Low birth weight will also have a long psychological impact on the child, namely developmental and growth disorders. Problems with children's growth and development include physical growth disorders, motor development disorders, language development disorders, emotional and behavioral development disorders. A preliminary study conducted at the Posyandu in Karangpakis village showed that children under five with a history of low birth weight experienced weight growth disorders below the normal growth line (BW / U). Objective: Determining the relationship between LBW and weight growth of children aged 1-5 years in Karangpakis Village, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency. Methods: This study used a correlation analytic research method using a cross sectional approach. The subjects in this study were toddlers aged 1-5 years in Posyandu, Karangpakis Village, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency. Sampling using total sampling with the number of respondents as many as 54 toddlers. Results: The results of statistical tests with the Chi-square test obtained that the X2 value was 13.699 and the p value was 0.008 <α = 0.05 Ha accepted Ho was rejected, or statistically it means that there is a relationship between low birth weight and weight growth of under-fives aged 1 -5 years in Karangpakis Village, Nusawungu District. Conclusion: There is a relationship between low birth weight and weight growth of children aged 1-5 years in Karangpakis Village, Nusawungu District.
