Abstract

Background: World Health Organization (WHO) data for 2020 around 1.13 billion people in the world suffer from hypertension and in Indonesia the prevalence of hypertension in 2013 was 25.8%, while currently it has increased to as many as 34.1 and as many as 37.57% the incidence of hypertension in Java Central, thus making Central Java the fourth in Indonesia. Elderly health is the most important thing as an effort to improve the health status of the elderly. One of the common degenerative diseases in the elderly is hypertension. The psychological impact caused by degenerative diseases, namely sufferers will experience anxiety and depression. Objective: The general purpose of writing this scientific paper is to describe nursing care with deep breath relaxation distraction and aromatherapy to overcome anxiety in the elderly with hypertension. Results: the results of the evaluation of nursing with a diagnosis of anxiety in the five hypertensive patients aged > 60 years showed that there was a decrease in anxiety levels as evidenced by changes in the HADS score between before implementing the action in the moderate anxiety category and after being given therapy for 3 meetings to reduce anxiety levels with mild criteria. Conclusion: Giving Deep Breath Relaxation Distraction and Aromatherapy can reduce anxiety in elderly patients with hypertension. Recommendation: It is necessary to do literacy regarding distraction and aromatherapy for families with the elderly.
