Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition when systolic blood pressure is above 140 mmHg and diastolic is above 90 mmHg. Hypertension is the deadliest disease in the world, and is currently the third killer after heart disease and cancer. Objective: To analyze nursing care for hypertensive patients with acute pain problems through progressive muscle relaxation at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This scientific writing uses a case study design. The case study subjects were 5 hypertensive patients, who experienced acute pain problems. Collecting data with observation techniques, interviews and documentation studies. Results: Nursing problems that arise in 5 patients with hypertension are acute pain. From the five patients there was a decrease in pain scores between before and after being given progressive muscle relaxation techniques for 3 days with an average score of 2.8. Before being given progressive muscle relaxation techniques, the majority of patients experienced a pain score with an average score of 5.4 (moderate pain scale). Meanwhile, after being given progressive muscle relaxation techniques, the patient experienced an average pain score of 2.6 (mild pain scale). Recommendation : Nurses should apply progressive muscle relaxation techniques in patients hypertension with acute pain nursing problems
