Abstract
Background of Problem: Father’s smoking habit may influence teens’ smoking behavior. Parents are very important for the growth of children's behavior. Parents’ smoking habit, especially the father, is a bad example for teenagers. In addition, young men today regard smoking as usual thing even though smoking may have dangerous impacts to health. Objectives: The present study was aimed at finding out the correlation between father’s smoking habit and teens’ smoking behavior of class XI students of Ma'arif 9 Senior Technical High School of Klirong, Kebumen. Methods: This research used descriptive correlation method with cross sectional approach. The samples were 41 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed and presented as frequency distribution for univariate data and Chi square test.for bivariate one. Result: Chi Square test showed that coefficient between smoking habits of fathers and teens’ smoking behaviors was 75.239 > chi square table 55.758. The correlation coefficient value was 75.239 with the probability (Sig) 0.022 < 0.05. Therefore, it could be concluded that the correlation between both variables was very significant. It means that the correlation between smoking habits of fathers and teens’ smoking behavior was strong. The positive (+) coefficient means that the correlation was one-way direction so that there was a tendency of the habit of smoking fathers will affect the behavior of teenagers to smoke. Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between father’s smoking habit and teens’ smoking behavior of class XI students of Ma'arif 9 Senior Technical High School of Klirong, Kebumen.
