Abstract

Background: Based on data the Central Java Statistics Agency, in 2019-2021 LBW in Central Java were 22,240. This figure shows that the number of LBW cases in Central Java still requires serious attention and treatment. LBW babies have a small chance of survival and have a long-term impact on their future lives. Therefore we need a method to increase LBW weight, namely with KMC. Objective: To analyze the effect of applying the kangaroo method of care on weight gain in Low Birth Weight Babies (LBW) in the Perinatology Room of Dr Soedirman Hospital, Kebumen. Methods: This research is a quantitative analytic type with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 43 LBW babies were selected using the Consecutive Sampling Technique. Bivariate analysis using quasi experiment. Results: The average body weight in LBW before being given the Kangaroo Method Treatment for 2 hours was 1995.81 grams and after being given the Kangaroo Method Treatment was 2097.21 grams with an increase of 101.395 grams. There is an effect of applying the kangaroo method of treatment on weight gain in LBW babies in the perinatology room of RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen with p=0.000 Conclusion: There is an effect of applying the kangaroo method of care on weight gain in LBW. Recommendation: For RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen this research can be used as policy material to determine PMK SOP to be implemented in the Perinatology room
