Abstract
Background: Heart disease is currently the leading cause of death in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 25% of all deaths. One of the most significant signs and symptoms of heart failure is shortness of breath. The Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) is a technique used to help expel sputum and control breathing, thereby reducing tightness. Objective: To provide nursing care for the application of the Active Cycle Of Breathing Technique (ACBT) in congestive heart failure patients with ineffective breathing patterns at RSUD dr. Soedirman Kebumen. Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The case study subjects were five congestive heart failure patients. The tools used in this study included nursing care formats, Nursing Kits, observation of ineffective breathing patterns, and the SOP for Active Cycle Of Breathing Technique (ACBT). The author presented the data and drew conclusions based on subjective and objective data, which were documented in nursing care resumes. Results: Nursing care given to congestive heart failure patients revealed that the main complaint experienced by the patients was shortness of breath. The priority nursing diagnosis for patients with congestive heart failure was an ineffective breathing pattern, as evidenced by all patients complaining of shortness of breath. Nursing interventions and implementations included airway management, as well as the application of the Active Cycle Of Breathing Technique (ACBT). The nursing evaluation of congestive heart failure patients showed that the issue of breathing patterns was not effectively resolved, as indicated by a decrease in respiratory rate (RR) and an increase in peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SPO2) for all patients. The nursing action innovation using the Active Cycle Of Breathing Technique (ACBT) resulted in a decrease in RR and an increase in SPO2 for all five clients. Recommendation: The results of this nursing care can serve as a reference for developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for managing shortness of breath in patients with congestive heart failure using non-pharmacological methods, such as the Active Cycle Of Breathing Technique (ACBT), either alone or in combination with other measures.
