Abstract

Background : Knowledge of basic life support and first aid is very important for school students. Thus they will have the ability to save people who are experiencing an emergency before receiving help from paramedics. The results of interviews with 3 students of SMP Muhammadiyah Purworejo showed that 2 students did not know about basic life support and first aid and 1 student already knew about basic life support and first aid from the internet. Objective: To find out students' knowledge about basic life support and first aid for youth red cross (PMR) students at Muhammadiyah Junior High School Purworejo Method: This research is a descriptive research. The sample in this study amounted to 35 people and was taken using the total sampling technique. Results: Most of the respondents female aged 12-14 years old. In this study the level of basic life support knowledge was in the less category (54.3%). The knowledge level of first aid for choking victims was in the less category (40.0%). The knowledge level of first aid for fainting victims was in the good category (68.6%). The level of first aid knowledge for bleeding victims was mostly in the good category (60.0%). Conclusion: The level of knowledge of Basic Life Support regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the level of knowledge of first aid for choking victims, the majority of adolescent red cross students are in the less category. The level of first aid knowledge for victims of fainting and bleeding was mostly in the good category. Recommendation: This research is expected to increase knowledge and skills for students, especially Youth Red Cross students and become a reference for further research.
