Abstract

Background: International Diabetes Federation in 2021 revealed the prevalence of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia reaches more than 19.47 million people and is expected to increase to 28.57 million in 2045. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar levels and requires treatment for a long time and can even last the patient's life. The family as the closest person to sufferers has the role and duties of the family in helping to care for DM sufferers undergoing treatment which can be done through family attitudes and motivation. Objective: Find out the attitudes and motivations of families in caring for family members with DM in the work area of the Adimulyo Health Center. Research Methods: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach. The sample in this study was 80 respondents with a sampling technique using proportional random sampling. Retrieval of data using a questionnaire on family attitudes and motivation. Research Results: Based on the age characteristics of the respondents, the majority are in the early adult category (18-40 years), based on the gender of the majority are female, based on the education level of the majority are senior high school, based on the employment status of the majority are working, and based on the relationship with the patient the majority are as children. Family attitudes showed that the majority of respondents were in the positive category. Family motivation showed that the majority of respondents were in the strong category. Conclusion: The results of this study show that family attitudes are in the positive category and family motivation is in the strong category. Recommendation: For future researchers, they can use different research methods to examine other factors such as knowledge, behavior, and family burden that can affect DM care.
