Abstract

Background: Free radicals are one of the causes of diseases such as premature aging, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and diabetes mellitus. The effects of free radicals can be prevented by using antioxidants. Ganitri leaf is one of the plants that contain flavonoids as antioxidants. Antioxidant activity test can use the DPPH and ABTS methods. Objective : Knowing the antioxidant activity and IC50 value of the ethanolaquadest extract (80:20) of ganitri leaves and knowing the differences in antioxidant activity with the DPPH and ABTS methods. Methods : Phytochemical screening was carried out using phytochemical tests and TLC. Antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH and ABTS methods. The resulting data is the IC50 value. Result : The results of the phytochemical test of the extract contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids, saponins and tannins, while the TLC test showed that the extract contained flavonoids. The results of the antioxidant activity test of the ethanol-aqueous extract (80:20) of ganitri leaves with the DPPH method IC50 values of 4.28 ppm and ABTS of 1.17 ppm. Conclusion : The ethanol-aquadest extract (80:20) of ganitri leaves have very strong antioxidant activity using the DPPH and ABTS methods. The ABTS method produces a better IC50 value than the DPPH. Recomendation : It is necessary to carry out antioxidant tests using the FRAP and BCB methods and to carry out toxicity tests on the ethanol-aquadest extract (80:20) of ganitri leaves.
